The Bullpen: Downtown Durham Social District Print Materials

18×24 pole signs mark the district boundaries.

In summer 2022, we created an identity for The Bullpen: Downtown Durham Social District. With the identity in place, Downtown Durham asked us to create print materials that would inform and become a part of the social district landscape.

We started with 18×24” post signs that would be hung up at the district boundaries to instruct revelers on the move about where they could go with their drinks. The most important point of the sign is set on a red background in white lettering to make the district boundary a clear stopping point. If they don’t read the rest, they should at least be able to understand drinks past that point are forbidden.

Next up was creating the plastic cups for to-go drinks within the district. These cups would need to include the tagline “Be 21 | Drink Responsibly,” and a simple design to make them cost-effective to print.

The final task was a set of window clings to provide patrons with quick information about local vendors’ level of participation:

The Bullpen opened for business on December 1, 2022 and it sounds like it’s been a success. We’re not so secretly hoping that one day they’ll come back to us to help design some social district merchandise.
